"Jesus... The Liberal Hippy Socialist"

It’s always been a marvel to me that the party that embraces and loves Jesus so much doesn’t do anything he says, and seems to live in direct contrast with his teachings.
You know what Jesus said about homosexuality?  Nothing, absolutely nothing.  In fact in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah God explicitly implicates greed, corruption, and cruelty towards the poor as the reasons he wipes the city off the face of the earth.  Yet somehow we’ve decided to place the blame on homosexuals and even went as far as to identify anal sex with word “sodomy”.
Jesus was a long haired, sandal wearing, guy who quit his job to preach about loving your enemies, giving to the sick and poor, and the evils social injustice.  This is the type of guy pundits on Fox News would label a liberal hippie socialist.  But God forbid if you say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”.  This perfectly illustrates the hypocrisy of Right (along with a hundred other things).  You see the reason they get all riled up every December with the decade long tradition of accusing the Left of waging a “War on Christmas” is because Christ is the reason for the season, and all we celebrate it for.  This is of course entirely untrue, and most of our Christmas traditions and folk lore are a merger Celtic Pagan and barbaric Germanic tribe cultural traditions.  And before the mid 19th century Christmas was a day people got really drunk and went out to ask rich people for money (TRUE).  But I’ll go into all that crazy stuff in my “War on Xmas” article in the coming weeks.  I’m just going to talk about Christ today, and how the last thing on earth he would ever be is a Republican.  Statistically there is a direct relationship between people who attend church regularly and people who vote republican.  This is such a solid statistical correlation that the State with highest number of churches per capita, Mississippi, surveys as the most conservative state in the country.  In fact, the top 10 most religious (Christian) states are Red states.

Why is this hypocritical?  Because the root word of Christian is Christ and the entire theology is based on the premise that he is the messiah of the gentiles and savior of all who accept him.  Other than some Old Testament scripture, which Judaism and Islam base their faith from, there is nothing consistent between the conservative platform and the teachings of Christ.

Republicans are generally against helping or increasing spending on social welfare programs that benefit the sick and the poor, though Jesus praised social welfare more than anything.

Deuteronomy 15:7

If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother

Psalms 140:12

I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.

Deuteronomy 26:12

Every third year you must offer a special tithe of your crops. In this year of the special tithe you must give your tithes to the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows, so that they will have enough to eat in your towns.

Luke 12:33

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.

Isaiah 25:4

You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress,
a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.
For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall.

Psalms 10:14

But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

Luke 6:20-21

20 Looking at his disciples, he said:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

Proverbs 22:9

The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.

Deut. 15:10

Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

Isaiah 41:17

The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

Luke 12:44

I can guarantee this truth: He will put that servant in charge of all his property.

Luke 14:12-14

Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Ezek.16:49

Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.

Republicans rant about 2nd Amendment gun rights, though Jesus wouldn’t approve of shooting even the worst of enemies.  Republicans advocate large scale military spending, even though Jesus told his disciples, “Blessed are the peace makers.”

Exodus 14:14

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

Joshua 24:12

And I sent terror ahead of you to drive out the two kings of the Amorites. It was not your swords or bows that brought you victory.

1 Samuel 2:9

He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness, for not by might shall a man prevail.

1 Samuel 17:47

Then everyone gathered here will know that the LORD can save without sword or spear, because the LORD determines every battle's outcome. He will hand all of you over to us.

1 Chronicles 28:3

But God said to me, ‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man of war and have shed blood.

Psalm 11:5

The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates.

Psalm 34:14

Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

Republicans defend the altruistic (self-serving) doctrine of Ayn Rand style ideology.  And proudly advocate programs that protect the wealth of the richest Americans.  Jesus clearly held the rich in contempt.

Luke 6:24

What sorrow awaits you who are rich, for you have your only happiness now.

Psalm 10:3

For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, And the greedy man curses and spurns the LORD.

Proverbs 11:6

Decent people are saved by their righteousness, but treacherous people are trapped by their own greed.

Ephesians 4:9

Notice that it says "he ascended." This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world.

2 Peter 2:14

They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!

2 Peter 2:3

And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Jeremiah 6:13

From the least to the greatest, their lives are ruled by greed. From prophets to priests, they are all frauds.

Jeremiah 8:10

I will give their wives to others and their farms to strangers. From the least to the greatest, their lives are ruled by greed. Yes, even my prophets and priests are like that. They are all frauds.

Republicans generally disagree with legislation that expands the civil liberties of gay rights, and non-Christian religious programs.  Though, God gave us free will including the free will to sin against him.  So yes, it is hypocritical for the party that favors material wealth and violence to overwhelmingly declare they side with Jesus.
They simply do not.
