Evolution

''You know what, evolution is a myth. Why aren't monkeys still evolving into humans?''  - Christine O'Donnell, (10/15/98)

Well Christine, maybe if you’d allow us to teach evolution in schools a little more you would know the answer to this already.  Monkeys are still evolving, and so are humans.  Though we share a common genetic ancestor with primates, humans (Homo-sapiens) are a separate species all together.  At some point in our evolutionary history our species divided and continued evolving on a different path of development than that of our primate cousins.  They too continued to evolve, in response to the physical and social pressures of their environment.  The modern human and monkey are examples of two different and still evolving species.  When the human genome is cross examined with that of a chimp, it reveals that we do in fact share ancestry.  This can be proven through analysis of retro-viral DNA, and the exact match in our chromosome sequence.  There is actually a confirmed fusion of our second chromosome, verifying the complete connection in our genetic material and explaining why primates have 48 chromosomes and humans have 46.  Evolution is not a myth; Thor is a “myth”.  Evolution is a proven science.
